On several recent shows we have spent time on different topics pertaining to human health, disease, degeneration and aging, focused on a variety of therapeutic as well as preventative interventions being developed in the private sector of the economy, both here in the U.S. and abroad.
We’ve also had representatives from various independent agencies of the United States Federal Government join us to discuss many of the exciting public sector discoveries and development occurring, some a bit further abroad, that possess massive trickle down benefits to the U.S. general public.
For example, in the last few months ideaXme has had several guests that have worked in different roles within NASA (U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration) talking about topics related to “up there” and how they can improve things for us “down here.” Topics have included the bio-dynamics of sub-orbital flight training, astrobiology per human experience on the ISS, even isolation chamber training for physical / psychological dynamics pertaining to future missions back to the Moon and to Mars.
Dr. Wendy Dean
Today’s guest, who I’m extremely excited about, is going to take us down a very interesting related path as it pertains to the topics of human repair, regeneration, and health, and has a truly unique set of experiences from both private and public sectors, is Dr. Wendy Dean.
Dr. Dean has a medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, specializing in Psychiatry, and was in clinical practice for 15 years before transitioning to military medical research, as the Medical Officer and Assistant Director for the Tissue Injury and Regenerative Medicine Program Management Office at the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. There, she oversaw development, clinical translation and funding of various emerging medical technologies to address combat injuries.
In August 2018, Dr. Dean became the Senior Vice President of Operations and Senior Medical Officer of the The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF), which is a global nonprofit organization. Created by Congress in 1983, it is focused on accelerating progress in military medicine and serving as a link between the military medical community, private sector partners, and the millions of American service families and veterans.

About her background, how she became interested in science, medicine, and psychiatry. Dr. Dean’s journey through both private and military sectors, and how she finds herself in 2019 at the very epicenter of both, in what is arguably one of the hottest area of medical care and regenerative medicine. Her work at HJF across the continuum of military service care, from soldier performance in the battlefield, bio / chemical / radiological / directed energy countermeasure development, infectious disease prevention, rehabilitation and casualty care, mental health care, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and long term care. Her work at HJF as it pertains to technology transfer & commercialization, and re-connection with the private sector.
