What is #bookstagram and why is it so important?

#Bookstagram is a community on Instagram. Its hashtag has been used more than 23 million times. Comprised of book lovers, writers and publishers who identify themselves with this hashtag, as well as a series of further hashtags for more detailed classification.

There are more than 800 million active monthly users on Instagram. 40 billion photographs have been published on the platform since its launch. 25 million businesses use it as a marketing tool (Source: Omnicore). Bookstagrammers represent a powerful marketing force on Instagram.

Hollie Fraser describes Bookstagram on Instagram

“Bookstagram is a community of readers and book bloggers on Instagram. The community increases in number every year. I think publishers have begun to take it very seriously. Millions of people use Instagram for book recommendations. Books are discussed on Instagram more than any other social outlet. If a book starts to get a lot of hype on Bookstagram it’s hard to not want to check it out. Publishers are becoming well aware of how much Bookstagram influences readers.

Here, I interview Anabel Jimenez founder of @inthebookcorner. I ask her how and why she started @inthebookcorner.”
