A heads up to all sports fanatics. On 1 June 2018 Mica Moore, bobsleigher and 100m, 200m and 4x100m sprinter is appointed as the sports ambassador for global ideas movement and podcast ideaXme Ltd.

Andrea Macdonald, founder of ideaXme comments:

“We’re very excited to be collaborating with Mica. Her interviews with leading sports personalities, innovators and organizations across the world will be unmissable!”

Sports warrior and Olympian promises unmissable interviews

Moore is a sports warrior and an Olympian. She understands the gruelling journey and obstacles that elite athletes navigate to compete. Furthermore, she has a good understanding of the context, including the business of sport, sports technology and sports media. Expect ideaXme’s sports category to be super “powered by Mica Moore!”

Super results in the 2-women bobsleigh event at the Winter Olympics 2018

A steely determination is evident in Mica’s results as brakewoman for bobsleigh 2-woman team at the Winter Olympics 2018, PyeongChang.

Both Moore and teammate Mica McNeill achieved the best ever results by a British women’s Olympic bobsleigh team. A major news story, as they overcame an obstacle bigger than a bobsleigh labyrinth, to attend the games to beat the UK men’s team.

Despite winning the 2-women event at the 2017 IBSF Junior Bobsleigh World Championships, Germany January 2017, Moore and Mica McNeill lost funding for their event. Later in the year, The British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association withdrew funding for them after deciding to maintain funding only for the British male bobsleigh teams who came in twelfth place, four places down from Moore and McNeill at the Winter Olympics.

The pay homage to the public who have supported their efforts, at some events McNeill and Moore have “Powered by the people”written on their sled.

Why is Bobsleighing so tough?

There’s no such thing as a smooth ride in a bobsleigh, subjecting crews to as much force as 5g. The sled is propelled like a rocket, sometimes reaching speeds of over 120 kilometres per hour along a track with at least fifteen curves. The track is menacing and extremely dangerous. Modern ones are made of concrete and are coated with ice. Tracks, 1200 – 1300 metres long are required to have at least one straight section and one labyrinth, that is three turns in quick succession without a straight section.

Athletics

Mica began her sporting career as a sprinter, representing premier UK athletics club, Birchfield Harriers and Cardiff University.

In May 2008, Moore won the 100m and 200m events in the under 17 Wales National Championships.

Following that, in May 2014 Moore broke the Welsh 4x100m relay national record at the Loughborough’s International event. She won the bronze medal in the 100m event and a silver medal in the 4 × 100m relay event at the British Universities and Colleges Sport Outdoor Championships in the same month.

Further, Moore competed for Wales in the 4x100m relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland, finishing seventh in the final. She won the 100m event at the 2017 Welsh Athletics Championships.

Looking to 2022 Birmingham

This year, Moore’s focus was on PyeongChang Winter Olympics, instead of the Gold Coast Commonwealth games but she continues to compete as a sprinter.

“There’s always an opportunity for possibly the next Commonwealth Games (2022 Birmingham), which is going to be a home games again.” BBC Sport, Wales.

The Beijing Olympics

“I am realistic with my goals and Beijing is four years away. It would be super cool to go to another Olympics,” said Moore in her interview with BBC Sport, Wales.

It is very challenging both organizationally as well as physically to get a qualifying time in both events. “I am not saying no to another Winter Olympics. I will have to get back into training and see how it goes.” BBC Sport, Wales.

Finally, Mica Moore has been nominated for Chwarae Teg’s Womenspire 2018 award. This is “a recognition award” for making a big difference to women in Wales. We’ll let you know when the results are in!
