Background:
“The International Space Station (ISS) Program’s greatest accomplishment is as much a human achievement as it is a technological one—how best to plan, coordinate, and monitor the varied activities of the Program’s many organizations.
An international partnership of space agencies provides and operates the elements of the ISS. The principals are the space agencies of the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada. The ISS has been the most politically complex space exploration program ever undertaken.” NASA
As well as being founder of the ISS-Above, Liam Kennedy is also CEO of ImageBEAM Inc. ImageBEAM has been producing live streaming events for its clients since 2003 which include The Planetary Society. One of the largest live streaming events was the Transit of Venus from Mt Wilson streamed using NASA’s contract with Akamai which reached over 600,000 viewers worldwide. Liam is considered an expert in the live streaming field and has provided consulting support to many other organizations.
The ISS-Above is a single-board computer, a Raspberry Pi, with a program that calculates where the International Space Station (ISS) is at all times. It works via your TV screens with information that shows you where the ISS is and when you can see it in your skies.
At certain times of day (around dawn and dusk) the ISS looks like a very bright star moving across your sky in 6-10 minutes. The ISS-Above enables users to view pictures of their location from the International Space Station when it is directly above them.
Bill Nye, CEO of The Planetary Society owns 3 ISS-Above gadgets. Check out his opinion of the ISS-Above here.
How to set up your ISS-Above:
Connect it to a router and to a TV.
Manage settings such as:
Your location.
How long different screens show.
Your tweet message to the Space Station
Turn off the LED lights.
