Dr Shima Beigi comments:
In this episode of ideaxme Rich Connectedness Podcast series, Dr. Shima Beigi, founder of Mindfulness Engineering™️ has connected with Resilience and Performance expert Dr. Jon Finn of Tougher Minds, and together we explore brain health and resilience.
In today’s complex world, leaders of industry are becoming aware of the fact that their global challenges require them to utilise their brain in a completely different way, build resilience and acquire a new mindset.
Resilience Is the Key to Mental Strength
Resilience is defined as the capacity of a complex system to withstand changes of its surrounding space and to adapt continuously. But, what it takes to build resilience is more than a definition.
How to Build Resilience
To be resilient, it is necessary to acquire what’s called the “Growth Mindset.” The concept of the growth mindset is at the heart of resilience building as it allows us to see the world in the learning process and seek solutions. Jon and I discuss how we can unleash the hidden powers of our brains and minds, change our behaviour and transform our lives.
Dr. Jon Finn Helps People to Train Their Brain
Jon began his career in elite sport, mainly professional football, rugby, cricket and golf. His work focused on helping people to perform to their potential. He realised that the same approach could be adapted to help a broader range of people, of all ages and in all walks of life.
He founded Tougher Minds to help more people to be healthier, happier and at their best more often, developing and delivering training in education and business to groups of varying sizes. The programmes have reached over 10,000 people during the last decade. The consultancy works with businesses, universities, schools and in sports. The consultancy provides award-winning, practical, effective and highly engaging training to help everybody improve resilience, well-being and personal performance for all aspects of work, education and life.
Tougher Minds’ Works From the Inside Out
Tougher Minds’ programmes use the latest neuroscience insights and have been recognised for their effectiveness. This includes receiving the Independent School Association’s Education Initiative of the Year award.
The consultancy has also advised the Department of Education, and think-tank DEMOS on developing resilience in young people. The innovative nature and impact of this work features in national newspapers including The Sunday Times and Sunday Telegraph.
The “award-winning team” has a combined experience of over 100 years in supporting individuals and teams to be their best. They use this experience, alongside peer reviewed research to help clients achieve: improved performance, greater well-being, enhanced resilience, increased productivity, increased innovation, a reduction in stress, improved morale, improved employee retention, reductions in employee disengagement, improved leadership development, and better performance under pressure.
“In order to ensure our training is rooted in the most up to date understanding of neuroscience,” Dr. Finn completed a PhD at Leeds Beckett University in 2015.
