Ira Pastor, ideaXme exponential health ambassador and founder of Bioquark interviews Eugene Borukhovich, Global Head of Digital Health Incubation at Bayer and it’s unique G4A initiative.
Ira Pastor comments:
So the year is now 2019, and we have surpassed $7 trillion in total annual healthcare expenditures around the globe. As part of that $7 trillion, we’re now spending close to a $1 trillion a year on pharmaceutical products.
However, aside from the sheer size of these numbers, what is equally, if not more fascinating is that we are seeing the traditional pharma product basket, which for most of the last century consisted primarily of small organic molecules, drugs and larger macro-molecule biologics (proteins, vaccine, antibodies) changing in front of our eyes.
We are now seeing pharma venture into such non-traditional areas such as living organism therapeutics, micro-biome cocktails, electroceuticals, and digital therapeutics, which we are going to be focusing on today.
Digital Health
Digital health is broadly defined as the convergence of digital technologies with healthcare to enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery and make medicines more personalized and precise.
It involves the use of information and communication technologies to help address health problems and challenges faced by patients. It can include, but is not limited to: applications of telemedicine, smart devices, and remote monitoring technologies.
Eugene Borukhovich
For today’s guest, I could think of no one better to come and talk with us for a while about this exciting evolving area in the pharma space than Eugene Borukhovich, Global Head of Digital Health Incubation at Bayer and it’s unique G4A initiative.
Bayer is a German multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company, and one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Their areas of business include human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare products, agricultural chemicals, seeds and biotechnology products.
The G4A venture initiative mission is defined as engaging with the brightest minds both inside and outside of Bayer, while identifying emerging trends and needs at the intersection of humans and technology, and transforming them into new products and solutions for people.
Mr. Borukhovich, who has a background in MIS, finance and strategy from Rutgers University, is also an Entrepreneur in Residence at Personal Health Solutions (PHS) Capital, as well as an advisor to numerous digital health startups. Eugene enjoys mentoring startups and is an avid blogger about innovation, digital health and startups.
Today we will hear from Eugene:
About his background, how he got interested in IT/IS, and how he finds himself in 2019 at this very unique convergent epicenter of technology and health. His view of the digital health space today, and where he sees it going. An overview of the Bayer, G4A venture, innovation ecosystem and some examples of translational opportunities that are emerging from it. His views on AI and deep learning technologies in the pharma/health space. His views on electroceuticals, and a discussion of important mentors and influencers along his career path.
